As the Golf Foundation celebrates our 70th year, we are taking the time to look at our legacy as well as looking forward to how we can continue to have an impact over the next 70 years.
Three-time Open champion Sir Henry Cotton co-founded our charity in 1952 with leading figures in golf of the 1950s, including Jack Burroughs (British Steel Golf Shafts), and Walker Cup player and captain, Gerald Micklem.
Since those early days we have reached around five million children through golf and have used the game both to change lives off the course and to create golfers on it.
Cotton’s philosophy has helped shape our charity’s values today, that we should make golf fun, inclusive, inspiring, innovative and enriching for all children.
This year, we have plans to celebrate our legacy at selected festivals throughout the summer, while we are also planning to host a special celebration event at The London Club in October.
