With famous golf holes such as the “Road Hole” 17th at St Andrews often stealing the limelight, a new campaign aims to shine the spotlight on lesser known golf clubs by launching a search to find the UK’s greatest amateur golf hole. With famous golf holes such as the “Road Hole” 17th at St Andrews often stealing the limelight, a new campaign aims to shine the spotlight on lesser known golf clubs by launching a search to find the UK’s greatest amateur golf hole.
The Grass Roots Golf Award is open to any golf club which doesn’t currently host a professional tournament and has been organised by BusinessInsuranceFor.com which provides business insurance services to golf and other sports clubs.
Golfers and golf club employees across the UK can nominate their local course by simply submitting a photograph or video of their favourite golf hole to https://www.businessinsurancefor.com/grass-roots-golf-award and write, in up to 100 words, why they have chosen the hole.
Those who nominate could be in with a chance of winning a Scotty Cameron putter worth up to the value of £280 while the club in question will receive a commemorative plaque. BusinessInsuranceFor.com will also donate £500 on behalf of the winning golf club to The Golf Foundation charity, which is committed to helping encourage more young people to take up the game.
Entries for The Grass Roots Golf Award must be received before 12pm Monday 31st October, with shortlisting based on criteria such as the hole’s natural beauty, difficulty levels, and innovative use of course features. Those finalists will then be put to a public vote - giving golfers the chance to choose their favourite hole.
Kevin MacKenzie, Head of Affinity Operations for BusinessInsuranceFor.com, commented: “There is a wealth of spectacular golf courses across the UK, but it’s always the major championship venues or iconic golf holes that receive widespread recognition. We therefore wanted to launch a campaign which celebrates those lesser known clubs, while supporting a charity which does so much invaluable work to support grass roots golf.
“It couldn’t be easier to nominate your local club, so we urge golfers of all abilities to put their photography skills to the test and submit their favourite hole today.”
