Winners receive Titleist prize putters after Golf Foundation challenge

Young people and families who took part in a unique ‘Golf Foundation Putting Challenge’ during The Open Championship have been receiving the Titleist Scotty Cameron putters they have won for some Jordan Spieth-like putting at Royal Birkdale.

During Open week the Golf Foundation showcased its golf formats for children and families in the ‘R&A Swing Zone’ in the spectator village, courtesy of The R&A. More than 6,000 visitors experienced fun golf with the Foundation team and learned about how this leading charity is helping more young people to ‘Start, Learn and Stay’ in the sport.

The Foundation’s ‘Putting Challenge’ was free to play and enjoyed nearly 4,000 visits from two-year-olds to grandparents – prizes were donated by Titleist, the #1 Ball in Golf. Successful putts earned Titleist balls and caps while holing ‘3 in a row’ booked a place in a daily prize draw to win a top-of-the-range Titleist Scotty Cameron putter.

Eight Scotty Cameron putters have now been dispatched to their winners, while the majority of those who took part will have seen Jordan Spieth holing some of his Open Championship winning putts… with a Titleist Scotty Cameron Newport 009.

Earlier in the season Titleist announced its continued support for the Golf Foundation. This partnership plays a key role in the charity’s national HSBC Golf Roots programme, which works to make golf more accessible for youngsters of all abilities and helps them acquire valuable ‘Skills for Life’ that golf can offer, qualities such as resilience, honesty, respect for opponents and good sportsmanship.

For 2017, Titleist is providing golf balls (all bearing the HSBC Golf Roots logo) that are being used in major Golf Foundation promotional and fundraising activities and also in the field as the development team delivers its programmes with the many golf clubs and driving ranges, community projects and schools.

For example, Titleist golf balls were utilised during the Foundation’s National StreetGolf Final at Formby Hall on the Monday of Open Championship week, an initiative run with the Premier League which through projects with 11 Premier League and Championship football clubs encourages kids from typically non-golfing communities to get into golf. After the final, the young people taking part were invited by The R&A to enjoy the unique atmosphere of an Open practice day at nearby Royal Birkdale, comparing their new golf swings with those of the stars out on the course.

Martin Crowder, National Development Manager of the Golf Foundation, said: “We are delighted that the team at Titleist is helping us to support brand new young golfers and is helping to raise the profile of our work in these creative ways in 2017. Golf companies who share our vision to encourage boys and girls of all abilities and help them to experience all the benefits of the game should be highly praised.”

Chris Beaumont, Titleist Golf Club Marketing Manager, said: “Titleist is proud of its support of golfers at all levels of the game, so we are delighted to continue our affiliation with the Golf Foundation in the important role it has in attracting young golfers to the game. The Golf Foundation Putting Challenge at The Open Championship was incredibly well supported and we hope that our involvement in this activity has helped to inspire more youngsters, including those lucky enough to win Titleist prizes, to enjoy the game for many years to come.”

Some 15,000 of the record 235,000 attendees at The 146th Open were aged 16 and under; who were able to visit free-of-charge as part of The R&A’s ‘Kids Go Free’ initiative, many watching one of the most dramatic wins in the Championship by Jordan Spieth, himself a Titleist Ambassador.
