Girls Retention Pilot
The Golf Foundation is committed to retaining more girls in golf. We are working to break down traditional barriers to make sure golf can be enjoyed by everyone; regardless of gender or ability.
After the successful recruitment of more girls into golf in recent years, we are now focusing greater attention on the retention of girls in golf clubs. We want to ensure that the girls we bring into the game are encouraged to develop and made to feel comfortable and confident. We want to provide a pathway that enables girls to flourish and excel; whether that be in terms of participation, leadership, friendship or personal development. We want golf to be ‘their game’ and to do it ‘their way’.
At the end of 2020 we launched our Girls Retention Pilot to find the best way of keeping girls involved in golf. The programme has developed from our popular Box of Tricks resource and 7 golf clubs are taking part in the pilot project. Each golf club will receive advice on how to address challenges and barriers to girls' participation at golf clubs, plus resources, funding and extra support from one of our dedicated Regional Development Officers. (The resources included 2 new guides to help golf clubs to keep girls loving golf which you can download below.)
Our findings on the project will be released later in 2021 - watch this space!

The Girls Retention guide shares the ‘know how’ on increasing girls participation, while the ‘8 Principles to Success guide’ includes ‘best practice’ advice that clubs can follow.
